NOTES FROM THE CAPTAIN

Welcome to the 2011 Poplar Creek Women’s Golf Club season!  The golf course is in great condition, and I am looking forward to a year of fun golf with wonderful women.

Already this year we have welcomed 5 new members, bringing our membership to 65.  Please help us in recruiting more new members this year.

If you have not already picked up your bright pink Poplar Creek WGC yearbook, look for it the next time you join us on a Wednesday for golf.  Please read through the calendar so you will know when you are assigned for desk duty and scoring duty.  Just a reminder that if you are unable to perform your duty on the date assigned, you are responsible for finding someone to fill in for you.

There is much more to read in the yearbook, and I would encourage everyone, especially new members, to spend a little time checking out the Starting Time Rules, Desk/Scoring Duty, Etiquette, Standing Rules, and Local Rules sections.

Another source of great information is our own website at www.pcwgc.net.  Molly Pong keeps it up to date with tournament results and news about our club.  Be sure to check it out.

You will also want to pick up a 2011 PWGA yearbook.  This includes dates and places of PWGA tournaments and playdays, as well as application forms for the major PWGA tournaments.  You can always find PWGA information and forms on line at www.golfpwga.org.  Again this year, if you belong to more than one PWGA golf club, you may apply for a rebate for multi-club membership between March 1st and Sept.30th.  Membership Rebate forms are available online or from Carolyn Keegan.

The invitational tournament will be hosted by the Tuesday WGC this year.  Mark your calendars and put together your foursomes for Tuesday, May 17thMore information to follow.

I look forward to seeing all of you at our first general meeting of the year.

Have a great year and play well!

Helen Hartshorn, Captain

HANDICAP COMMITTEE

Responsibilities – to ensure the integrity of the handicaps it issues

PWGA has reminded all clubs to appoint a Handicap Committee to make certain that the members comply with the USGA Handicap System.  The Board will form this committee and will announce its makeup and what matters it will address.

Peggy Nahinu, Handicap Chair

MONEY MATTERS

I have been the club Treasurer for the past 5 years, and am stepping down in 2012.  Duties are varied but minimal – Managing club income (member dues, social events), club expense and bookkeeping really do not take a lot of time.  We rely on active members to make the club run smoothly and democratically.  It’s YOUR turn to come forward!  Contact me or the captain to volunteer.

Diane Key, Treasurer
